Weekly Afterschool Art Classes or "To Do Art or Not to Do Art?"--that is the question.

Hi Everyone,
It's time to consider how your child will spend his or her extracurricular time? What about art classes? Don't have a Picasso on your hands, you say? Well, keep in mind most artists became great like most Olympic athletes--through practice, practice, practice. Does your child enjoy art? If that's the case, your child will enjoy art class. If the child is truly interested, that's the best reason to sign-up because you know the child is going to want to keep attending even after Christmas break.

On the other hand, a child may show great promise in art, but can't seem to sit still very long. I would question whether this is a good time to sign the child up for art. Maybe you should give the child a few more years to settle down. There are some rare cases, of which I am a prime example, in which the child takes until 19 yrs old to "settle down". My mother used to tease and say cough syrup was her best friend. Then, there's the example of my youngest child who is very active and finds art rewarding and calming.

As you can see, to choose art for your child is a very individualistic decision. I am always available to talk it over with a parent if he or she has some concerns or questions. As you can also see, I have the best interest of the child at heart and do not believe there's a "one size fits all" answer.

Renaissance Camp for Teens and Tweens Tues. July 19-21 from 9-3pm

We are having a week focused on our older more mature artists--the ones with two digit ages. The teens and tweens camp will focus on a painting by Vincent Van Gogh called "A Cornfield with Cypresses". We will be discussing Van Gogh along with his other thick-painted friends. They liked to put the paint on with a knife. It must have taken years for those paintings to dry.:)
No previous art experience is required. The cost is $50 for supplies and registration. The weekly fee is $100. The artists receive a sketchbook, pencil, eraser, and 11x14 canvas create their own work of art during the week. They will also explore colored pencil techniques and drawing. They will draw a face "Chagall style". This camp provides lots of opportunity for the students to practice, practice, practice and improve dramatically in a short period of time. We will touch briefly on VanGogh's mental health and how our relationship with God is the answer to our emotional needs. He loves us and is more than enough! IMPORTANT NOTICE: If the deadline has passed to register for a particular camp, that doesn't mean you can't register. It only means I can't guarantee when you call, I will be able to give you a spot. If the deadline has passed, please call me! :) I will be glad to let u know if I have a spot available. The old saying, "It never hurts to ask." The registration deadline was created so I would have enough notice if a camp group was going to be over 6 kids to have an Art Assistant for that week. Thank you for your love!

Theme: Summer Safari—We go hunting wild game and find monkeys of virtue along the way.

Theme: Noah’s Rainbow—We learn about colors and that we can count on God’s promises.

Theme: Famous Fashion—Discover the art of fashion design and create your own cool collection.
